About
Senior iOS engineer for production app engines
I write about the real constraints behind iOS product work: architecture, platform migrations, performance, privacy, and long-lived systems used by many apps.
Hi, I’m Stephane Lanfranchi. I’m a senior iOS engineer with seven years of experience building and maintaining production iOS systems in a large white-label application engine.
Most of my work has been at the boundary between product requirements and long-lived platform code: UIKit architecture, Swift and Objective-C interoperability, StoreKit subscriptions, WebKit plugin infrastructure, image-loading performance, privacy and consent systems, and client-specific native applications.
That experience shaped the way I approach engineering: features need to work with existing code, evolving platform APIs, configuration-driven behavior, performance limits, privacy requirements, and users who simply expect the product to remain dependable.
Today I am also building Finely, a personal finance application where I can apply the same production discipline to a focused product using UIKit, SwiftData, StoreKit 2, notifications, and upcoming Apple system integrations.

How my responsibilities progressed
These phases describe the progression of the work without assigning artificial dates to projects that evolved over several releases.
-
Seven-year foundation
White-label iOS platform engineering
I learned to ship inside a mature UIKit and Objective-C engine used to generate and maintain many customer applications. The work required configuration-driven behavior, backward compatibility, and changes that could survive many product combinations rather than one controlled app.
-
Expanded ownership
Revenue and plugin infrastructure
My responsibilities expanded into systems with business and operational consequences: StoreKit subscriptions, backend receipt validation, anonymous entitlement state, plugin WebViews, local asset serving, controlled cross-origin networking, and recovery after platform failures.
-
Recent platform work
Architecture, performance, and privacy
I worked across reusable content architecture, Native Ads, display-sized image decoding, age declaration, consent interpretation, and feature gates. These projects connected low-level implementation details to memory pressure, child protection, advertising behavior, and long-term maintainability.
-
Product and independent work
Native workflows and Finely
A dedicated insurance application gave me direct ownership of a sensitive billing journey, Vision-based card capture, and recoverable submission flows. I am now applying that product focus to Finely and its finance domain rules, persistence, monetization, and planned system integrations.
